Regular Season Round 1: Chiba Jets - Aishin SH 74-82

There was no surprise when Chiba Jets (0-2) were defeated at home by Aishin Sea Horses (2-0) 82-74 on Sunday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-13. But Chiba Jets won second period 25-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Chiba Jets outrebounded Aishin Sea Horses 41-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. International swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American power forward Rick Rickert (211-83, college: Minnesota) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the other American import power forward Clint Chapman (208-89, college: Texas) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aishin Sea Horses will face Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Chiba Jets will play on the road against Dragonflies in Hiroshima and hope to win that game.
