Regular Season Round 4: Phoenix Hagen - Giessen 46ers 86-83

A very interesting game took place in Hagen. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 13th ranked Giessen 46ers (1-3) to fifteenth ranked Phoenix Hagen (2-2) 86-83 on Saturday evening. The hosts were already 16 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 26-13 Giessen 46ers' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 86-83 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Giessen 46ers 50-34 including a 24-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. Phoenix Hagen players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a very good performance for American point guard David Bell (187-81, agency: Three Eye Sports) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. The other American import power forward Ivan Elliott (203-86, college: UCSB) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Cuban swingman Yorman Polas (192-85) replied with 17 points and 6 rebounds and American point guard Cameron Wells (186-88, college: Citadel) added 13 points and 8 assists in the effort for Giessen 46ers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Giessen 46ers' coach Denis Wucherer tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Phoenix Hagen moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Crailsheim and Fraport SKY. Newly promoted Giessen 46ers dropped to the twelfth position with three games lost. Phoenix Hagen's next round opponent will be league's second-placed s Oliver Baskets in Wuerzburg and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Giessen 46ers will play at home against the league's leader ALBA Berlin (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
