Regular Season Round 3: Hitachi SR - Hiroshima D. 100-92 OT

Dragonflies (#7) forced the game against Hitachi Sunrockers (#6) into an overtime, but lost by eight points 92-100 on Saturday night. The hosts trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 28-19 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 8-point victory in overtime. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Dragonflies' 50. Dragonflies were plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) answered with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Shogo Asayama (192-81) added 24 points in the effort for Dragonflies. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Sunrockers will have a break next round. Dragonflies will play at home against Hokkaido L. (#10) and hope to win that game.
