Regular Season Round 9: Osaka Evessa - Okinawa GK 89-72

There was a change at the BJ League leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Okinawa GK (4-2). They were defeated by third ranked Osaka Evessa (5-2) 89-72 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Okinawa GK. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Osaka Evessa. Okinawa GK managed to win second period 20-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Osaka Evessa dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Okinawa GK's 42. Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and guard Narito Namizato (172-89) chipped in 19 points and 7 assists. The best for the losing side was American power forward Evan Ravenel (203-89, college: Ohio St.) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and guard Ryuichi Kishimoto (176-90) scored 16 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Osaka Evessa have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Okinawa GK at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Kyoto Hannar.. They were replaced at the leadership position by Shiga L-Stars. Okinawa GK will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Osaka Evessa will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Okinawa GK at home.
