Regular Season Round 3: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel T-A 70-64

Maccabi Haifa used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Tel-Aviv 70-64 on Monday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-18. But Hapoel Tel-Aviv won second period 14-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Haifa forced 20 Hapoel Tel-Aviv turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. International forward Oz Blayzer (199-92) accounted for 15 points for the winning side. American point guard Talor Battle (182-88, college: Penn St., agency: Two Points) came up with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international center Robert Rothbart (217-86, agency: Octagon Europe) added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Hapoel Tel-Aviv in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa will meet Maccabi K/G (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against Ironi Nahariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
