Regular Season Round 5: Gornik Walbrzych - Olesnica 71-62

There was no surprise in Walbrzych where bottom-ranked Olesnica (0-5) was defeated by second ranked Gornik (4-1) 71-62 on Saturday. Gornik outrebounded Olesnica 42-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was power forward Pawel Bochenkiewicz (199-89) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Point guard Rafal Glapinski (183-82) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Five Gornik players scored in double figures. Belarusian point guard Luka Malakhau (185-94) produced 20 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) and swingman Grzegorz Kaczmarek (193-83) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Olesnica's coach Piotr Gliniak tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gornik maintains second place in Group D with 4-1 record behind leader AZS AGH Alstom, which they share with Miedzychod and Nowa Sol. Olesnica lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. Gornik will face Gniezno (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olesnica will play against WKK Wroclaw and hopes to get finally their first victory.
