Regular Season Round 13: Gunma - Sendai 89ers 88-98

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Gunma (4-7) was defeated at home by second ranked Sendai 89ers (9-2) 98-88 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Sendai 89ers outrebounded Gunma 43-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Sendai 89ers' coach Shuto Kawachi used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) produced 28 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and power forward Patrick Sullivan (206-88, college: SE Louisiana, agency: HMS) added 21 points respectively for lost side. Five Sendai 89ers and four Gunma players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers keep a position of league leader. Gunma lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with seven games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round. Gunma will play again at home against the league's leader Sendai 89ers (#1) and hope to win that game.
