Regular Season Round 9: Niigata R. - Denso Iris 56-79

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-9) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their ninth consecutive match to third ranked Denso Iris (7-2) 79-56. The game was mostly controlled by Denso Iris. Niigata R. was better in fourth quarter 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Denso Iris dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata R.'s 28. Denso Iris had a 36-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. International center Sakura Akaho (182-96) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) accounted for 16 points. Forward Nana Kondo (177-88) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) added 17 points respectively for Niigata R. in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Denso Iris have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain third place with 7-2 record having just -2 point less than leader JX-Eneos S., which they share with Toyota A. Niigata R. at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. They share the position with Haneda Vickies. Denso Iris will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata R. will play again at home against Denso Iris (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
