Regular Season Round 14: Gunma - Sendai 89ers 88-87

Third defeat of Sendai 89ers (9-3) against tenth ranked Gunma (5-7) 88-87 was the most important game of the last round. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-87. Gunma looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Swingman Yosuke Sugawara (187-83) saved the victory by scoring 18 points and 6 assists. Guard Kosuke Taneichi (188-87) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists and his fellow American import guard Masaharu Kataoka (190-85) added 22 points in the effort for Sendai 89ers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gunma moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Fukuoka Rizing. Sendai 89ers at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They share it with Hamamatsu P. and Osaka Evessa. They were replaced at the leadership position by Okinawa GK. Sendai 89ers will play next round against strong Iwate Big Bulls trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Gunma will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Yokohama BC on the road.
