Regular Season Round 14: Niigata Albirex - Shinshu BW 85-74

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Niigata Albirex as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Niigata Albirex defeated 9th ranked Shinshu BW at home 85-74. The game was mostly controlled by Niigata Albirex. Shinshu BW was better in third quarter 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Niigata Albirex won last quarter 27-18. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Shinshu BW's 38. Niigata Albirex forced 19 Shinshu BW turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Senegalese center Pape Faye (200-87) had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Jamaican-American power forward Ryan Reid (204-86, college: Florida St., agency: Comsport) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. American forward Jeffrey Crockett (201-91, college: Texas Tech) responded with 27 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: Florida Atlantic) scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Shinshu BW's coach Koju Munakata rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Okinawa GK. Shinshu BW at the other side keeps the ninth place with six games lost. They share the position with Aomori Watts. Shinshu BW will play next round against Akita Happinets trying to get back on the winning streak. Niigata Albirex will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Fukushima at home.
