There was no surprise in Vilagarcia Arousa where 10th ranked Cortegada (1-6) was defeated by sixth ranked Maquinaria Ensino (5-2) 79-67 on Saturday. The game without a history. Maquinaria Ensino led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Maquinaria Ensino especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. Forward Raquel Asensio (178-83) fired 26 points for the winners. American forward Ivy Abiona (187-88, college: G.Washington, agency: Gamble Sports Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and guard Montserrat Gilabert (172-80) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Five Maquinaria Ensino and four Cortegada players scored in double figures. Maquinaria Ensino moved-up to fourth place in Group A, which they share with C.Adelantados and Adareva. Loser Cortegada keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Maquinaria Ensino will face higher ranked Aros Leon (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cortegada will play against Adareva (#4) in SC Laguna and hope to win that game.
