The most surprising game was the first loss of ALBA Berlin (8-1) in Oldenburg on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by sixth ranked EWE Baskets (7-2) 79-76. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of ALBA Berlin. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But ALBA Berlin won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when EWE Baskets won last quarter 20-18. 28 personal fouls committed by ALBA Berlin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American Vaughn Duggins (190-87, college: Wright St.) who led his team to a victory with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized Dutch Robin Smeulders (208-87, college: Portland, agency: Court Side) contributed with 9 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Will Cherry (185-91, college: Montana) answered with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Serbian guard Dragan Milosavljevic (198-89) added 12 points in the effort for ALBA Berlin. Four ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. ALBA Berlin's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. EWE Baskets have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Brose Bask. and Fraport SKY. ALBA Berlin at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Ludwigsburg. EWE Baskets is looking forward to face Phoenix Hagen (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ALBA Berlin will play against Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#16) and is hoping to win this game.
