Regular Season Round 9: Gijon - Chantada 81-90

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Gijon (0-3) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Chantada (3-1) 90-81 on Sunday. Chantada forced 20 Gijon turnovers. Strangely Gijon outrebounded Chantada 59-45 including 19 on the offensive glass. Gijon was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Octavio Cabrera (187-93) who scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Carlos Noguerol (186-93) chipped in 24 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Chantada players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and forward Edmundo Martin (204-91) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Chantada moved-up to second place in Group A-B, which they share with Agustinos-Eras and Vigren. Gijon lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with three games lost. Chantada will face Rosalia (#12) in Santiago de Camp. in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gijon will play on the road against Grupo Inec Z. in Zamora and hopes to get finally their first victory.
