Regular Season Round 11: Heidelberg - Finke Baskets 80-54

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (5-6) smashed at home 8th ranked Finke Baskets (5-6) 80-54 on Sunday. The game without a history. MLP Academics Heidelberg led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Finke Baskets to just 7 points in fourth quarter. MLP Academics Heidelberg forced 26 Finke Baskets turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. MLP Academics Heidelberg looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Bryan Smithson (183-85, college: NC-Asheville) who scored 22 points and 7 assists. His fellow American import guard Marcos Knight (188-89, college: Middle Tenn.St.) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. American guard Matt Vest (196-92, college: Wright St.) produced 18 points and 7 assists and center Nick Schneiders (221-84, college: USC Upstate) added 13 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. MLP Academics Heidelberg moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Finke Baskets. MLP Academics Heidelberg will face higher ranked Koeln Rh.Stars (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
