Regular Season Round 15: CDU Catolica - AB Ancud 89-70

Bottom-ranked Universidad Catolica managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked AB Ancud in Santiago 89-70. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 19-point difference suggests that Universidad Catolica is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of AB Ancud. The game was mostly controlled by Universidad Catolica. AB Ancud was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Universidad Catolica dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to AB Ancud's 26. It was a great evening for American forward Reginald Larry (198-86, college: Boise St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Erik Buggs (180-90, college: Valparaiso) helped adding 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Buggs is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Universidad Catolica's coach Miguel Ureta used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds and Venezuelan forward Juan Coronado (203-90, college: Liberty) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Universidad Catolica (6-8) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated AB Ancud. Universidad Catolica will play against CD Castro (#7) at home in the next round. AB Ancud will play against the league's second-placed Los Leones where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
