Regular Season Round 8: Akademik PL - Beroe 86-80

The most important game in the last round took place in Plovdiv between third ranked Beroe (5-3) and eighth ranked Academik Plovdiv (2-6) on Saturday night. Beroe was defeated by Academik Plovdiv in a tough game on the road 80-86. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Beroe. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 27-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Academik Plovdiv made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. The former international Tihomir Zhelev (193-90) replied with 14 points and 5 rebounds and the former international Stanislav Vaklinov (207-89, agency: Interperformances) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Beroe. Four Beroe players scored in double figures. Beroe's coach Lubomir Minchev rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Academik Plovdiv moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Levski 2014. Beroe at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Academik Plovdiv is looking forward to face league's second-placed Balkan in Botevgrad in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Beroe will play at home against Rilski and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
