Regular Season Round 10: Gandia Basquet - Cartagena 70-60

Everything went according to plan when top-ranked Gandia Basquet (8-0) beat at home bottom-ranked Cartagena (0-8) 70-60 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gandia Basquet. Cartagena was better in third quarter 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cartagena 45-33 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gandia Basquet looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Daniel Marti (203-89, college: Union, TN) scored 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Kevin Navarro (178-92) chipped in 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Worth to mention Marti played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Gandia Basquet's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American swingman Kerry Jones (201-89, college: Texas Coll.) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and guard Chema Albaladejo (191-90) scored 14 points. Gandia Basquet have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group E with 8-0 record. Loser Cartagena still closes the standings with eight games lost. Gandia Basquet will face Paterna (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Cartagena will play against Myrtia and hopes to get finally their first victory.
