Regular Season Round 19: Niigata Albirex - Toyama Grouses 59-80

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Niigata. Third ranked Toyama Grouses faced 4th placed Niigata Albirex. Guests from Toyama (11-4) smashed host Niigata Albirex (10-6) 80-59. The game without a history. Toyama Grouses led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata Albirex's 30. Toyama Grouses had a 34-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Joho Masashi (183-82) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists. American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses' coach Bob Nash felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jamaican-American power forward Ryan Reid (204-86, college: Florida St., agency: Comsport) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Chris Oliver (201-85, college: Radford) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Toyama Grouses have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Niigata Albirex lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata Albirex will play again at home against the league's second-placed Toyama Grouses (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
