Regular Season Round 10: Zarautz - Clavijo 93-86

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Clavijo (2-4) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Zarautz (2-4) 93-86 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 32-23. But Clavijo won second period 21-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zarautz forced 23 Clavijo turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Clavijo's players. Estanislao Andres (185-90) scored 17 points to lead the charge for the winners and guard Unai Eizaguirre (182-88) chipped in 13 points and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side Lithuanian Mantvydas Staselis (189-94) responded with 28 points and 4 steals and point guard Brais Gago (180-96) scored 20 points and 5 assists. Five Zarautz and four Clavijo players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Zarautz moved-up to eighth place in Group A-A, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Clavijo. Clavijo lost third consecutive game. Zarautz will face Burgos (#12) on the road in the next round.
