There was no surprise when 9th ranked Mondragon (2-5) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Valladolid Univ. (4-3) 60-48 on Saturday. The game without a history. Valladolid Univ. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Valladolid Univ. outrebounded Mondragon 46-26 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Mario Rodriguez (-95) who scored 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Power forward Alvaro Encinas (202-94) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Martxel Balanzategui (191-92) produced 9 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Ivan Saez de Cortazar (198-91) added 7 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Valladolid Univ. maintains sixth place in Group A-A with 4-3 record. Mondragon lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with five games lost. Valladolid Univ. will face league's leader Pielagos in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mondragon will play on the road against Santurtzi (#3) and hope to win that game.
