Very expected game when 8th ranked Nitra (4-13) was smashed by fourth ranked Rieker KN (12-4) in Komarno 91-62 on Sunday. Rieker KN dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Nitra's 20. They outrebounded Nitra 47-28 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Rieker KN looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Nitra's players. American guard Bernard Thompson (190-93, college: FGCU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Nigerian-American forward P.J. Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Alawoya is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Rieker KN players scored in double figures. Rieker KN's coach Andelko Mandic felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Ladislav Stojanov (194-88) replied with 10 points and 7 rebounds and center Juraj Simoncik (198-93) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Nitra. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 12-4 record. Loser Nitra dropped to the seventh place with 13 games lost. Rieker KN will face league's second-placed Inter Bratislava on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Nitra will play against Iskra Svit (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
