Regular Season Round 11: Gijon - Agustinos-Eras 82-90

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Gijon (0-5) was defeated at home by second ranked Agustinos-Eras (5-1) 90-82 on Sunday. Gijon was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Gijon 44-33 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gijon was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Jaime Dieguez (184-89) who scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Dionte Ferguson (198-92, college: S.Alabama) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) produced 29 points and 5 rebounds and guard Albano Fernandez (192-85) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Agustinos-Eras. They keep a position of Group A-B leader, which they share with Mieres BVM. Gijon lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. Agustinos-Eras will face league's second-placed Mieres BVM at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gijon will play against Rosalia (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
