Regular Season Round 2: Cocodrilos - Gigantes 78-80

Important game to mention about took place in Caracas. Gigantes (1-1) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging Cocodrilos (1-1) 80-78 in the game for the third place. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cocodrilos won third quarter 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gigantes made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Gigantes outrebounded Cocodrilos 39-28 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American forward David Reichel (203-84, college: CS San Bernar.) supported him with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Even 29 points and 5 assists by American guard Carl Elliott (193-83, college: G.Washington) did not help to save the game for Cocodrilos. His fellow American import forward Tony Mitchell (203-92, college: N.Texas) added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gigantes will play against Guaros in Barquisimeto in the next round. Cocodrilos will play on the road against Toros in Maracay to get more than just one victory in their record.
