Regular Season Round 14: Phoenix Hagen - ALBA 83-86

The most exciting game of round 14 in the BBL took place in Hagen. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 9th ranked Phoenix Hagen (7-7) to second ranked ALBA Berlin (11-3) 86-83 on Tuesday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Phoenix Hagen. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-13. But Phoenix Hagen won second period 31-26. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. ALBA Berlin made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. ALBA Berlin outrebounded Phoenix Hagen 39-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Phoenix Hagen helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Bosnian center Elmedin Kikanovic (211-88, agency: Beo Basket) who scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. Serbian guard Dragan Milosavljevic (198-89) chipped in 26 points and 5 rebounds. American point guard Brandon Jefferson (175-91, college: Metro St., agency: Two Points) produced 24 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import power forward Ivan Elliott (203-86, college: UCSB) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Phoenix Hagen players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. ALBA Berlin maintains second position with 11-3 record behind leader Brose Bask. Phoenix Hagen at the other side keeps the ninth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Ratiopharm. ALBA Berlin are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Mitteldeutscher BC (#18) in Weissenfels in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Phoenix Hagen will play on the road against Crailsheim Merlins (#15) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
