Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked EWE Baskets (11-5) beat on the road 11th ranked Giessen 46ers (7-9) 88-79. The guests were already 12 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 27-24 Giessen 46ers' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 88-79 at the end of the game. The winners were led by American center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana, agency: Pensack Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import swingman Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) supported him with 18 points and 6 assists. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 12 points and 6 rebounds by British center Gabriel Olaseni (211-91, college: Iowa, agency: Pensack Sports) did not help to save the game for Giessen 46ers. American point guard Cameron Wells (186-88, college: Citadel) added 14 points and 5 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. EWE Baskets moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Ludwigsburg and Fraport SKY. Newly promoted Giessen 46ers keep the eleventh position with nine games lost. EWE Baskets will play against Walter Tigers (#15) in Tuebingen in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Giessen 46ers will play on the road against BG Goettingen (#17) and hope to get back on the winning track.
