Regular Season Round 5: Guaiqueries - Bucaneros 72-69

The most exciting game of round 5 in the LPB took place in Porlamar. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Bucaneros (3-2) to fifth ranked Guaiqueries (2-1) 72-69 on Wednesday evening. Bucaneros were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 21-12 charge of Guaiqueries, which allowed them to win the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Bucaneros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Dominican Victor Liz (188-86) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. The former international swingman Cesar Silva (190-81) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. Guaiqueries' coach Gustavo Aranzana used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international power forward Hector Romero (202-80, college: New Orleans) produced 17 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Jesus Centeno (190-85) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Guaiqueries maintains fifth place with 2-1 record. Bucaneros at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Guaiqueries are again looking forward to face higher ranked Bucaneros (#4) in La Guaira in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bucaneros will have a break next round.
