Regular Season Round 10: Proteas - Panathinaikos 68-59

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Voula. Third ranked Proteas faced their biggest opponent Panathinaikos. Host Proteas (6-4) defeated guests from Athens (8-2) 68-59. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. Proteas made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Panathinaikos was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Anna Spyridopoulou (184-88) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Katie Rutan (173-90, college: Maryland) contributed with 19 points for the winners. American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Lolita Lymoura (180-85) added 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Panathinaikos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Proteas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-4 record having four points less than leader Olympiacos Pireus. Panathinaikos at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. Proteas will play against Ippokratis (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Panathinaikos will play against Kronos AD (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
