No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Leon (5-3) edged at home 9th ranked Gijon (1-6) 66-65 on Saturday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Leon had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Wykevin Bazemore (193-93, college: Winston Salem) fired 29 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import forward Trevor Berkeley (198-92, college: Drake) chipped in 6 points and 9 rebounds. Berkeley is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Leon's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) produced 11 points and 7 rebounds and guard Pablo Breton (180-93) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Gijon players scored in double figures. Leon maintains fifth place in Group A-B with 5-3 record, which they share with Chantada and Vigren. Newly promoted Gijon keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Leon will face Rosalia (#11) in Santiago de Camp. in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gijon will play at home against Betanzos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
