Regular Season Round 30: Shiga L-Stars - Gunma 81-87

Date: January 10, 2016
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when seventh ranked Gunma (12-14) beat on the road 6th ranked Shiga L-Stars (16-8) 87-81 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-81. Gunma outrebounded Shiga L-Stars 47-33 including 34 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who led his team to a victory with 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. The other American import power forward Mike St.John (203-84, college: La Salle, agency: Global Sports Plaza) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. St.John is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and Yu Okada (184-83) added 21 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Shiga L-Stars. Four Shiga L-Stars players scored in double figures. Shiga L-Stars' coach Tohyama Kohto rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gunma maintains seventh position with 12-14 record. Loser Shiga L-Stars dropped to the third place with eight games lost. They share the position with Toyama Grouses. Gunma are looking forward to face Saitama Broncos (#11) on the road in the next round. Shiga L-Stars will play against Shimane Magic (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
