Regular Season Round 13: Cartagena - Almassera 77-90

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Cartagena (1-11) was defeated at home by second ranked Almassera (11-1) 90-77 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Almassera. Cartagena was better in third quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cartagena was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Hector Piquer (190-91) fired 22 points for the winners. Forward Carlos Rodriguez (194-82) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Five Almassera players scored in double figures. Forward Jorge Lledo (203-80) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and guard Chema Albaladejo (191-90) added 23 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Almassera. They keep a position of Group E leader, which they share with Gandia Basquet. Loser Cartagena keeps the tenth place with 11 games lost. Almassera will face Benidorm (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cartagena will play against Sagunto in Gilet and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
