Regular Season Round 14: Velez - Novaschool 64-53

No shocking result in a game in Velez-Malaga where fifth ranked Velez (5-5) defeated 7th ranked Novaschool (2-8) 64-53 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Velez. Novaschool was better in third quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Novaschool to just 6 points in first quarter. Velez forced 20 Novaschool turnovers and outrebounded them 42-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was forward Javier Meras (194-82) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Ismael Sanchez (193-83) chipped in 20 points. Fernando Ferruz produced 24 points and center Anastasio Vazquez (204-92) added 8 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Velez maintains fifth position in Group D-East with 5-5 record. Novaschool lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Velez will face Cazorla (#6) on the road in the next round. Novaschool will play against the league's second-placed Andujar and hope to win that game.
