Regular Season Round 13: Souffel - Le Portel 80-74

There was an upset when 4th placed Le Portel (7-6) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Souffelweyersheim (6-6) 80-74 on Saturday. Le Portel was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Souffelweyersheim made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. Le Portel was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Matthew Gibson (195-84) stepped up and scored 16 points and 7 assists for the winners and swingman Gaylor Curier (197-92) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Souffelweyersheim's coach Stephane Eberlin allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American center Jakim Donaldson (204-83, college: Edinboro) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import swingman Sean Mosley (192-89, college: Maryland, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Souffelweyersheim and five Le Portel players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Souffelweyersheim. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Evreux. Loser Le Portel keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Souffelweyersheim will face Saint-Quentin (#13) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Le Portel will play against Chorale de Roanne (#17) and hope to win that game.
