Regular Season Round 14: Torrelodones - Gran Canaria 62-66

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Gran Canaria (4-7) defeated on the road higher ranked Torrelodones (5-6) 66-62 on Saturday. Torrelodones trailed by 14 points at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 23-10 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 62-66 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was guard Joaquin Portugues (185-95) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Arturo Fernandez (193-95) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Forward Javier Salson (199-82, college: Bloomfield, agency: Duran International) produced 25 points and 6 rebounds and Jordan Djounorou added 12 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gran Canaria moved-up to ninth place in Group B, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Torrelodones keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Gran Canaria will face higher ranked Real Canoe (#5) in Madrid in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
