Second Stage Round 1: Palanga - Perlas-MRU 81-78

Important game to mention about took place in Palanga. Fifth ranked Palanga (16-11) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 4th placed Perlas-MRU (16-11) 81-78 in the game for the fourth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Perlas-MRU. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Perlas-MRU won third quarter 27-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Palanga players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Perlas-MRU was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for center Matas Jucikas (205-94) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American forward RJ Sims (196, college: E.Mennonite) helped adding 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Margiris Normantas (194-96) with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Arnas Berucka (196-97) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Perlas-MRU's coach Arvydas Gronskis tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Palanga moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Perlas-MRU. Palanga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Perlas-MRU will play on the road against Zalgiris II (#6) in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
