Regular Season Round 5: America de Recife - Maranhao 72-55

LBF top team - America de Recife (7-1) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they beat fifth ranked Maranhao (0-6) 72-55. The game was mostly controlled by America de Recife. Maranhao managed to win fourth quarter 17-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. America de Recife made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. America de Recife outrebounded Maranhao 39-27 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international center Kelly Santos (192-79, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and American power forward Jennifer Lacy (191-83, college: Pepperdine) chipped in 19 points. America de Recife's coach Roberto Dornelas used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Leticia Rodrigues (190-95) responded with 8 points and 8 rebounds and international swingman Patricia Teixeira (176-90) scored 12 points and 4 steals. America de Recife have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-1 record, which they share with Corinthians. Maranhao at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. They share the position with Pres.Valceslau. America de Recife will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Maranhao will play at home against Pres.Valceslau (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
