Regular Season Round 14: Hitachi SR - Toyota Alvark 71-85

Date: January 23, 2016
Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Tokyo: Toyota Alvark (#2) and Hitachi Sunrockers (#5). Hitachi Sunrockers were defeated at home 71-85 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Hitachi Sunrockers managed to win third quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American players dominated the game. Forward Jeffrey Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toyota Alvark (20-4) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers keep the fifth place with nine games lost. Toyota Alvark will meet at home Hokkaido L. (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Sunrockers will play against Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
