Regular Season Round 15: Valladolid Univ. - Estela 66-92
Date: January 23, 2016
The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Valladolid Univ.'s (5-6) home loss to fifth ranked Estela (8-3) 66-92 on Saturday. The game without a history. Estela led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Estela outrebounded Valladolid Univ. 48-30 including a 37-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Pablo Sanchez (198-81) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). American guard Riley Stockton (192-92, college: Seattle Pacific) helped adding 19 points. The best for the losing side was forward Axel Castillo (194-88) with 7 points and 6 rebounds and guard Alvaro Martinez (185-92) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Estela moved-up to fourth place in Group A-A, which they share with Easo. Loser Valladolid Univ. dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Estela will face Mondragon (#10) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Valladolid Univ. will play against La Fecha in Arroyo Encomienda and hope to win that game.
