There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Hertener Loewen (7-9) was smashed at home by eleventh ranked SC Rist Wedel (5-11) 94-68 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SC Rist Wedel made 7 blocks. It was a very good performance for American forward Amir Carraway (198-91, college: Chico St.) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Janis Stielow (193-95) contributed with 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four SC Rist Wedel players scored in double figures. SC Rist Wedel's coach Michael Claxton felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard DeAndre Lansdowne (187-89, college: Fort Lewis) replied with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals and swingman Eric Curth (193-92) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Hertener Loewen. SC Rist Wedel moved-up to ninth place in North, which they share with Schwelm and Stahnsdorf. Loser Hertener Loewen keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. SC Rist Wedel will face league's second-placed Herzoege Wolfenbuettel at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
