Regular Season Round 15: Cazorla - Velez 76-67

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Velez (5-6) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Cazorla (3-8) 76-67 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Velez won third quarter 32-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cazorla forced 23 Velez turnovers. Velez was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for forward Carlos Sanchez (205-90) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Senegalese center Mouhamadou Diop (212-83) helped adding 11 points and 14 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Ismael Sanchez (193-83) with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Ruben Lopez (193-76) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Velez's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cazorla maintains sixth place in Group D-East with 3-8 record, which they share with Novaschool. Newly promoted Velez keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Cazorla will face higher ranked Andujar (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Velez will play against the league's second-placed Coin and hope to win that game.
