Regular Season Round 7: Ciego de Avila - Santiago 83-67

Date: January 26, 2016
The game with biggest result difference took place in Avila. Local Ciego (5-3) beat 6th ranked Santiago (2-5) 83-67. Ciego forced 27 Santiago turnovers and outrebounded them 50-25 including a 26-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a quality performance for guard Alfredo Hernandez (192-85) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. The former international point guard Yasser Rodriguez (187-88) accounted for 21 points and 8 assists for the winning side. Five Ciego players scored in double figures. International forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) came up with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) added 10 points respectively for Santiago in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ciego moved-up to second place, which they share with Villa Clara and Camaguey. Santiago at the other side dropped to the bottom position with five games lost. Ciego's next round opponent will be again bottom-ranked Santiago (#8) at home which should be theoretically an easy game.
