Regular Season Round 18: Franca - Minas 80-79
Date: January 27, 2016
A very interesting game took place in Sao Paulo. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Minas (8-9) to tenth ranked Vivo/Franca (9-8) 80-79 on Wednesday evening. The hosts were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 6-point deficit before their 22-15 run, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Minas outrebounded Vivo/Franca 40-21 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. 31 personal fouls committed by Minas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was guard Guilherme Schneider (193-86) who scored 16 points and 4 assists. Forward Antonio Ferreira (178-94) chipped in 13 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Benzor Simmons (196-88, college: Tenn-Martin) who recorded 19 points and forward Pedro Cavalin (201-93) added 16 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Vivo/Franca moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Pinheiros. Minas at the other side dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. Vivo/Franca's next round opponent will be higher ranked Brasilia (#3) at home and it may be quite challenging game. Minas will play against the league's second-placed Paschoalotto/Bauru (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
