Important game to mention about took place in Avila. Third ranked Ciego (6-3) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Guantanamo (3-5) 67-66 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Guantanamo. They outrebounded Guantanamo 42-27 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international point guard Yasser Rodriguez (187-88) nailed 21 points and 4 assists for the winning side and guard Alfredo Hernandez (192-85) accounted for 9 points and 11 rebounds. The former international swingman Yoannis Soria (195-86) came up with 19 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Elvis Pons (194-83) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Guantanamo in the defeat. Five Guantanamo players scored in double figures. Ciego have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Capitalinos and Camaguey. Guantanamo at the other side dropped to the sixth place with five games lost. Ciego will again play against Guantanamo (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Guantanamo will have a break next round.
