Regular Season Round 27: H-Sirenos - Utena 76-87

Very significant was Utena's (#2, 14-2) victory against 4th placed Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas (9-7) 87-76. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas was ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 49-31 second half run of Utena. They made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas turnovers and outrebounded them 44-22 including a 21-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for international swingman Marina Solopova (180-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 assists and 5 steals. Point guard Rita Milieskiene (175-78) accounted for 23 points for the winning side. The former international point guard Santa Okockyte (175-92) came up with 17 points and 6 assists and Gintare Jasiunskaite (182-94) added 14 points respectively for Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas in the defeat. Four Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Utena have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion (14-2) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Suduva. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. Utena will play against bottom-ranked Siauliai-Univ. (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas will play against the league's leader Suduva in Marijampole and hopes to get back on the winning track.
