Regular Season Round 16: Zarautz - Pielagos 82-107

Date: January 31, 2016
Very expected game when 12th ranked Zarautz (3-9) was rolled over at home by first ranked Pielagos (11-1) 107-82 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Pielagos. Zarautz was better in third quarter 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pielagos shot 29 for 48 from the free-throw line, while Zarautz only scored twelve points from the stripe. Pielagos forced 24 Zarautz turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Zarautz was plagued by 35 personal fouls down the stretch. Senegalese center Abdoulaye Seck (205-92) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Center Julio De Assis (200-92) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Four Pielagos players scored in double figures. Iker Lizarriturri produced 9 points and 8 rebounds and Aitzol Eguskitza added 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pielagos maintains first position in Group A-A with 11-1 record. Newly promoted Zarautz dropped to the eleventh place with nine games lost. Pielagos will face Estela (#3) in Santander in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Zarautz will play at home against Easo (#5) and hope to win that game.
