Regular Season Round 19: Torun - Stal Ostrow 78-69

No shocking result in a game in Torun where third ranked Twarde Pierniki (16-5) defeated 9th ranked Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (9-10) 78-69 on Wednesday. Stal Ostrow Wlkp. trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 21-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 69-78 at the end of the game. Twarde Pierniki shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American point guard Danny Gibson (177-84, college: S.Indiana) fired 25 points and 5 assists for the winners. The former international swingman Michal Michalak (197-93) chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Twarde Pierniki players scored in double figures. Twarde Pierniki's coach Jacek Winnicki used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Curtis Millage (188-81, college: Arizona St.) produced 20 points, 6 assists and 4 steals and Bulgarian Hristo Nikolov (200-85, agency: 011 Sports) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Twarde Pierniki. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Stal Ostrow Wlkp. dropped to the tenth position with ten games lost. Twarde Pierniki will face Slask (#14) in Wroclaw in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Stal Ostrow Wlkp. will play on the road against PGE Turow (#12) in Zgorzelec and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
