An interesting game took place in Belo Horizonte, where 9th ranked Minas (8-11) lost at home to twelfth ranked Universo/Vitoria (6-12) 79-83. Minas was ahead by 4 points after three quarters before a 29-21 charge of Universo/Vitoria, which allowed them to win the game. The winners were led by Spanish Alvaro Calvo (202-83, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who scored that evening 24 points and 6 rebounds and Ghanian guard Kojo Mensah (185-85, college: Buffalo St.) supported him with 18 points and 4 steals. Universo/Vitoria's coach Regis Marrelli allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 26 points and 4 assists by Puerto Rican guard Isaac Sosa Carrion (190-90, college: Canisius) did not help to save the game for Minas. American guard Benzor Simmons (196-88, college: Tenn-Martin) added 12 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Universo/Vitoria maintains twelfth position with 6-12 record. Minas lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 11 games lost. Universo/Vitoria's next round opponent will be higher ranked Brasilia (#4) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
