Regular Season Round 19: Gelisim - Akhisar Bld 69-72

A very close game took place in Izmir between Akhisar Bld and Gelisim. Twelfth ranked Akhisar Bld (8-11) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Gelisim (9-10). Akhisar Bld managed to escape with a 3-point win 72-69 on Friday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-15. But Gelisim won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Akhisar Bld won last quarter 13-11. Akhisar Bld outrebounded Gelisim 46-35 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard K.T. Harrell (193-92, college: Auburn) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import forward D.J. Shelton (208-91, college: Washington St.) helped adding 15 points and 16 rebounds. Akhisar Bld's coach Zafer Aktas used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side the former international Reha Oz (200-78) responded with 22 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Akhisar Bld moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Gelisim keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Eskisehir Basket. Akhisar Bld will meet Bandirma Kir. (#16) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gelisim will play against Sakarya BSB (#5) in Sakaraya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
