Regular Season Round 17: Burgos - Santurtzi 60-77

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Burgos (3-9) lost at home to fourth ranked Santurtzi (10-3) 77-60 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Santurtzi. Burgos was better in third quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Santurtzi dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Burgos' 24. Forward Juan Torres (196-92) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Jon Betolaza (179-93) contributed with 14 points and 6 steals for the winners. Five Santurtzi players scored in double figures. Forward Alvaro Gomez (192-84) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and center Txomin Lopez (204-78) added 19 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Burgos. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santurtzi moved-up to second place in Group A-A, which they share with 3 other teams. Burgos lost their third game in a row. They keep the tenth position with nine games lost. Santurtzi will face Zarautz (#14) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Burgos will play against Venta de Banos (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
