Regular Season Round 17: Linense - Plasencia 81-64

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when leader Plasencia (11-2) lost to second ranked Linense (10-3) in La Linea 64-81 on Saturday. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in Group D-West. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 44-24 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Linense looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Plasencia's players. Point guard Miguel Ortega (188-91, agency: SPORTlab Agency) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. Center Jose Maria Balmon (204-81, agency: Duran International) contributed with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Andres Cardito (178-93) answered with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Serbian center Ugljesa Bogdanovic (209-91) added 16 points in the effort for Plasencia. The victory was the third consecutive win for Linense. Newly promoted Linense maintains second place in Group D-West with 10-3 record having eleven points less than leader L'Hospitalet. Loser Plasencia still keeps top position with two games lost. Linense will face Sevilla II (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Plasencia will play against San Fernando (#4) and hope to win that game.
