Twelfth-ranked Tsukuba R. (5-27) made lots of trouble for third ranked Aishin Sea Horses (22-8) in Kariya. Aishin Sea Horses managed to secure only six-point victory 105-99. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 28-15 Tsukuba R.'s run in the last quarter tied the game, leading to overtime which they eventually won 15-9. Aishin Sea Horses shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international guard Makoto Hiejima (190-90) contributed with 28 points and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Juan Pattillo (201-88, college: W.Kentucky) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and Senegalese center Aziz N'Diaye (213-88, college: Washington) added 15 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Tsukuba R.Four Aishin Sea Horses and five Tsukuba R. players scored in double figures. Tsukuba R.'s coach Fujitaka Hiraoka rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains third place with 22-8 record having four points less than leader Toyota Alvark. Tsukuba R. lost their eighth game in a row. They stay dead last with 27 lost games. Aishin Sea Horses will play against Hokkaido L. (#6) in Saporro in the next round. Tsukuba R. will play on the road against the league's leader Toyota Alvark (#1) in Tokyo and hopes to get back on the winning track.
